It seems like, when it really comes down to it and you are tied down in that chair, being whacked by a $5 wrench, any person would give up their phrase.
I don't think there are many people at all that would rather die than give their coins away and live. I think most of us would choose to live.
Maybe the $5 wrench is the surest way to get someone's bitcoin.
How does one protect themselves from a $5 wrench?
Some ideas of mine include:
- keeping a fake address with 10k usd in it (enough to make the attacker think he got you good)
- never telling anyone you have btc in the first place
problem is:
- everyone that knows me already knows me as the bitcoin guy
- if i have a fake wallet, and they for whatever reason think it's not all the bitcoin i have, they might just continue the $5 wrench
